A S H T O N The apartment was small, to his displeasure, but he handled it well. He had more than enough room for everything that he owned and he was adequately comfortable in his setting. It was a change from the large house that he had shared with his mother in Colorado, but he had adapted quite well, considering. The white walls, ceilings, carpets, and tiles were too clean and too bright, not to mention too bland, so he had tried to liven up the atmosphere a bit with pictures of home and family. He had asked his mother to send him photos of the house and the horses that he had left behind, in her care. He had also asked her to send some old photos of his grandparents and his father and her self. She had willingly obliged and sent them, and now most of them hung in frames on walls all over his house. A picture of his mother sat on his desk in his small bedroom. Ashton had come here to make a new life, on his own. First he was going to attend college and then he had plans to buy a ranch out in the country around the town. There were a few that he had his eyes on. Right now he was out looking for a job. He had applied for a few that day and had high hopes that he would get a job somewhere. Now he was returning home from his day out. Sunset had come and he was tired. He took his key from his pocket when he reached his door and unlocked it, closing it as he stepped inside. All was quiet, as it should be, and everything was as he left it. Storing his key back in his pockets, he slipped into the kitchen and headed for the refrigerator. He had meager supplies for food at the moment, but he had a trip to the store planned soon and would then restock. For now he settled with a beef sandwich for dinner. He ate it dry, with only lettuce and tomatos along with the meat. He sat down in the living room and flipped through the channels on the T.V., quickly growing bored as the seconds passed bye slowly. The hours ticked by and he fell asleep long after eating his sandwich dinner. Finally awakening from his slumber he stood and stretched, then slipped on his white jacket over his white t-shirt and slipped on his tan sandles. His tan pants were just as normal as the rest of his clothing. Checking to make sure that his keys were in his pockets, he stepped outside and locked the door behind him. The area outside was quiet, to his pleasure, and he began his walk with eager steps towards the road beside the aparments that he lived in. He walked swiftly, enjoying everything at a swift glance. He did not slow until he reached the corner and turned onto the main street, though he was headed for the most remote spot that he could find in the town. Just on the edge of town there was an abandoned building with a nice, grassy yard with several trees. He turned onto the alley that would take him there and came to it within minutes. He stopped, heading for a tree near the front of the yard where he would be partially hidden from other people. He sat on the ground and leaned against the trees, gazing at the starry night sky above. The night was warm and comfortable.

Jamie Inside Jamie's new little apartment, everything was white. Everything was bland and boring. The walls were white, the ceiling was white, and her bedroom walls were white; White, white, white. Before moving everything into her apartment, Jamie decided to repaint the walls. She had moved everything in the bedroom, and kitchen. There was nothing in the living room. She was going to paint the living room first, let it dry over night, and then move everything that belonged in that room, back into that room.
Jamie had gone to the small shore earlier and got self 4 buckets of paint. She had picked out the color Pale Turquoise and it was a very nice color. Not too bright, and not too dark. Jamie had all four buckets in the back of her car. She took out her keys, and unlocked the trunk of her car. She lifted the trunk door and grabbed two buckets of paint. She left the trunk open, but took her keys out of the lock. Jamie quickly walked to her front door, set the buckets down. She then quickly ran back to her car and grabbed the last two buckets. She slammed the trunk closed, and hurried off to her apartment. Once she got her door opened, Jamie opened the door, and quickly moved all the paint into the apartment. She closed the door, and dropped her keys on the little isle in the kitchen. Jamie went to her room, and changed into a shirt that was old, and had paint splatters already on it. She then threw on some shorts, and took off her shoes. It was easier to move around without shoes. Jamie then pulled back as much hair as she could into a pony. She began to lay out the plastic out over the carpet that she had bought earlier the day. It protected the carpet from the paint dripping, or spills. Jamie taped up the white frames on the bottom of the wall and at the top. She then opened up the front door, so the fumes did not overwhelm her. Before starting to paint, Jamie went into her room, and grabbed her radio. She plugged it in, and turned it on. She turned it to her favorite station and began to sing to the music.
With a deep breath, Jamie opened one can of paint, and picked up the roller. She began rolling the paint on in big, long stripes. She was already beginning to like the new color on the walls. After a long time of working, Jamie finally got three walls painted. That was all she was going to do tonight. Jamie sighed, and stepped back. She viewed all of her work, and really liked it. She then put the lid back on the bucket, and made sure that the lid was on tight. She laid the roller down next to the bucket, and went to the kitchen and grabbed a drink. She then went out to her car, and leaned against her car. She looked up to the stars and sighed. The sky was clear, and full of stars. They were so bright and beautiful.
After being outside for a little while, Jamie went back into her apartment, and took off her shirt. She changed into a silky blue shirt. Her shorts had a little paint of them, so she took those off and put on a pair of black jeans. She slipped on some flip-flops and went into the dinindg room. She picked up her jacket and slipped it on. In her front right pocket, Jamie put her keys after locking up the apartment. Jamie had been working hard on painting, and it was time to take a break from it. She closed the door behind her, and headed out towards an abandon building she saw earlier. As she came around the corner, Jamie looked at the building. It was very old. She then turned her head and saw that someone was already there. Jamie stayed quiet, and walked pass the young man, and sat against the other tree.

A S H T O N
His eyes began to wander, as they so often did when he had time on his hands to do nothing more than think and watch what other people did. As his eyes traveled around the realatively small, dark yard of the abandoned, dilapidated old house he thought he could catch the small glimpse of a shadow as it moved deeper into the darkness. Suddenly very aware of his surroundings he silently came to his feet and moved around to the trees, keeping his form hidden as he slipped around to take a look and see who was about, suddenly feeling that there was indeen someone or something here with him. His eyes scanned the area, searching for something that would give the sneak away. He stepped forward more, peeking around the tree that had been standing in front of him. To his surprise there was a girl sitting in fron of the very tree that he stood behind. He nearly yelled in surprise, but managed to get back behind the tree before she would have a chance to notice him and leaned his back against the tree silently.
He finally built up the control to turn and walk out from the tree and talk to the girl. With slow, deliberate steps he walked out into the open, acting as though he had just noticed her and hadn't been about to yell at her a moment ago. Excuse me, he said in mock surprise. I wasn't expecting anyone else here tonight. His voice was calm and warm, freindly rather than threatening as some might have been if their privacy had been intruded upon by some stranger. He looked the girl over silently, his eyes guarded and careful as he waited to see if she had anything to say to him now that they were stuck in the same place together. Not that he couldn't leave and go home without another word said between them, but he did want to hear what she had to say about his sudden appearance here with her. He had been here first, after all, he had the right to know what she was going to do about him now.

Jamie
Jamie had sat against a large tree. Her back touched it, as she gazed up into the sky. She remembered when her and her father would walk outside at nighttime and look up at the stars. On the nights that Jamie was not able to go to sleep, her father would wrap her in a warm blanket and take her outside and gaze up into the stars. Jamie remembered also remembered when her father would point out each constellation and tell his daughter all about each one.
Jamie was all alone, or what she though, and was felling a bit lonely. She had not talked to many people in her apartments, for she had just recently moved in. Jamie was really longing for someone to hang out or just to talk to. A person without friends is going to be lonely for someone. Jamie laid her head back against the tree and kept her focus on the stars. Each star seemed to amaze her more and more. There was big stars and little stars and bright stars and dull stars. Each one was different from the one next on to it. Jamie sighed a deep and unexpectedly sigh. It was getting a little cold outside, so Jamie pulled her legs next to her chest and hugged them tightly. She laid her head down on her knees and looked down on the grass.
Jamie looked up when she heard a voice. IT was a male, of course, and Jamie looked up to see who it was. Yeah? Her voice was soft, yest friendly. I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone else was here either. Jamie stood slowly, and looked the gentleman in the eyes. Do you mind if I stay here for a little while? Jamie crossed her arms slowly, trying to keep herself a little warmer. She had goosebumps up and down both arms and her legs were cold as well. I am a little lonely right now. Jamie looked down at the ground and then back at the guy. She hope he would not mind if she stayed there for a little while.

No, I don't mind, he answered softly, his voice quiet. He walked over to a nearby tree, about ten feet away, and leaned against, watching the driveway to the house as if he expected someone else to come barging in on his free time. I won't be here long. I need to get home, he added after a few moments of silence. He sighed, his crosses arms moving up and then down with his chest at the heavy intake of breath and then the realease of the same air that he had taken in. He wasn't really interested in spending time with anyone right now. He would rather be alone, especially since this was some of the only free time that he would have for a while since he was headed for college in a few days. He sighed again, something that he did often, but he was not doing it because he was irritated by his sudden company. He actually found that he did not mind having her there, though eh would still need to leave in a few minutes anyways.

Jamie Jamie had really nothing to say. She did not know the guy nor she did not know anything about him. Jamie sighed as she leaned against the tree. She figured she would go home soon as well. Um... I'm Jamie by the way. She looked over to the guy, and hoped he would talk to her again. For some reason, his voice was very soothing to her. She liked the tone of it. Jamie only saw his face once, but he looked to be about her age. He looked very handsome. Jamie did not really have an idea of what she was going to do once she started school. Because once she was starting school, she would have to attend it, do the homework, work her part-time job, keep in great health, be active in extracurricular activities and take care of herself. Not including making calls to her few friends. Jamie had so much to do, and she was planning on coming back to this abandon building for some realizing time. Jamie already knew that she was going to stand under the stars for just a few minutes every night. She had done ever since she was just a little girl.
Her mind went back to the guy. I should be heading back soon as well. I'm glad I live in the apartments right over there, and they are close to this place. She decided she was talking too much, so she became silent, and looked away from the handsome guy. There was not she could say without sounding weird, or crazy. So she just stayed quiet. Jamie looked back up into the stars and sighed. She pointed out in her mind the constellation, Orion the Hunter and Taurus the Bull. Each one still amazed Jamie, even though she had seen them hundreds of times.

"Ashton," was all he said when he gave his name to her. There was nothing else to say. He looked over her direction once, but she was shrouded in shadows from where he stood and he could see very little of anything about her. He shrugged it off mentally and turned his head back to the drive. When he first heard the sound of the owl hooting in the trees above he decided that it was high time he should be getting home. He leaned away from the tree, arms still folded. He had never liked girls; they scared him the way they always tried to get his attention. They did it to the other guys too, but they never seemed to bothered by it, unless it was a girl they didn't like. He, on the other hand, had never liked a girl and it caused him to try and avoid this new one, afraid that she would be like all of the others, though she seemed a little different than the rest. Though he did not want to, courtesy demanded that he offer what he said next. I live in the same apartments, he said. We can walk back together, if you want. He secretly hoped that she wouldn't want to walk with him, but he was really doubting that. She had said that she was lonely. He waited for her answer before moving closer to the driveway.

Jamie Jamie sighed and rememered his name. It's nice to meet you Ashton. Jamie smiled friendly, and kept looking at the stars. There was really nothing for her to say. He asked if she wanted to walk with him. Maybe Ashton might be a future friend to her, or just an aquantenances. Who knew. They had just met each other, and the whole future was wide open for changes and plans and friends and everything else. I, um, I guess that would be fine. Jamie hesitated a bit before she walked closer to the guy. They might be just around the corner from their homes, but he could be a dangerous person. She was not sure, but she was willing to risk it, and take a chance. Jamie sighed and waited for Ashton to do or say something. Jamie's head kept on turning towards the sky though.
Jamie's favorite part of the day was nighttime. She always found herself outside when the stars were out, and would stay outside for a little while. No matter what the weather was, she was always outside for at least a few minutes. The only reason she would not go outside to looked up at the stars, is if there were not stars visible. But since Jamie does not live in the city, the bright city lights never were making it hard for people to see the stars.

His feet began to carry him toward the gravel fdrive that would lead them to the main street. He walked slower than he normally did, for her sake, so that she would not get left behind. He was fast even when he walked, a testimony of his prowess on the track. Even walking slower than normal he was a little fast as she sped down the gravel drive, stopping at the corner. His eyes swept the area quickly, looking for anything that might be of danger to himself or the girl. Seeing nothing, he looked behind, seeing that Jamie was following, and turned down the sidewalk that would take them to the apartment complex where they were both staying for the time being. His footsteps hardly made any noise as he seemed to be looking at the ground, though his eyes were really shifiting back acnd forth. You couldn't trust anyone on the streets nowadays, and he knew that better than he ever would have liked to. Jamie even seemed not to trust him, which was a good thing, really, though he was not going to hurt her. They were almost back to the apartments, but they were in the part of town where no one ever came at night. It was dangerous here, and no one seemed to be around.

Jamie Jamie followed behind Ashton. She did not walk too close to him, but she was not too far away from him either. Her arms were crossed and she sigh every once in a while. Jamie kept her eyes on the back of Ashton, but sometimes wandered to the sky. Jamie really paid attention to the street that she was walking down. She never walked down this street alone, but tonight, it seemed a little more dangerous than normal. No one was on the street accept Ashton and herself. No one she could see at least.
Jamie realized her shoe was untied, so she stopped, not telling Ashton she was stopping, and so she bent down to tie it. A man about 6 foot, 4 inches snuck up behind her silently. He was wearing a black ball cap, black sweatshirt, navy blue jeans with dark colored paint stains spattered all over them, and a pair of steel-toed boots. His hair was all messed up, and tucked under the cap. Jamie was still unaware of the man, that was walking up behind her. As Jamie was bent over, the man came up behind her and wrapped his big, muscular arms around her tiny waist. Jamie screamed a shrill scream, and started flailing her arms around and her legs and her head. Jamie kept on screaming until the man tried to pick her up and drag her off to a dark place. There were many dark places that he could drag her off to. Jamie had been picked up off the ground, effortlessly on the man's part and thrown over his bulky shoulder. Jamie was using her nails, and digging into the man's neck. She was still screaming, and he then whispered to her, "I've got a knife." Jamie stopped squirming, and stopped screaming. She was not going to get something cut off, or something cut at all. But if she was going to die now, why not try to get free? Jamie watched the guy, as he began to run towards a line of large trees. Jamie began screaming louder than before and kicking and punching with all her might. Jamie was hitting the man pretty hard. But it was effecting the man little. He was a big, bulky man, and was tolerant to pain. Jamie had realized that Ashton was hopefully still around. Ashton! Jamie screamed at the top of her lungs. If he had not heard her screaming from before, then he must have been deaf. Jamie kept on screaming bloody-murder in the guy's ears, and finally the guy threw her on the ground. Jamie's small body hit the ground hard, with a loud "thud". The guy quickly bent down to Jamie and tried to take her shirt off. Jamie then screamed even more, and began to scratch at the guy's eyes. Her body ached from the impact of the man throwing her down to the ground, hitting the hard ground. He did not manage to get her shirt off, yet, because she was tearing at the guy's eyes, screaming, kicking.

He had been quietly listening the the sound of Jamie's faint footsteps. When they stopped he glanced behind, but she was onyl tying her shoe, so he continued walking. Then another set of footsteps joined his, quietly, and he firgured that Jamie had finished tieing her shoes and was following again. Then the screaming, as it began, caught his attention. He turned to see her being carried away by a man that was taller than his sx foot and two inches. His first reaction was shock as he watched them speed away into the night, but within seconds he was off, having kicked off his shoes to run faster. Running on the pavement burned his feet and killed his ankles, but he pressed on despite the pain, managing to keep the man and Jamie just within his range of sight. But only just. He hoped the few seconds he had stared in shock at the two had not been the time that the man needed to get away.
It was dark out and the two had seemed to disappear now, but then he heard the distinctive sounds of a struggle. He saw them, Jamie on the ground and the man trying to take her shirt off as she struggled against him, shrouded in dark shadows where few would see them. He went around, slipping into the trees and coming up behind the man. He stopped just behind a tree that was behind the man. His eyes glinted dangerously as he assesed the situation with eyes that sparked with a fire that had not been there before. He felt responsible for Jamie. But, more than that, he found himself caring about what happened to her, and he did not want this to happen to her. Silently he came behind the man, who was hunched over to reach Jamie, and grabbed tried to grab his hair, pulling back with all the strength that he could muster, unsure if he had the grip that he wanted on the man. He wasn't sure what he was getting into, and the man might have a weapon. He would need to be careful.

Jamie The man was still trying to take Jamie's shirt off, when another man started pulling his hair. He whipped around, and using his arm, the man tried to knock Ashton over. Jamie found that this might be the only time to escape. She quickly rolled out of the guys reach, and ran over to where the buildings stood. She stood in the shadow, in shock. She was still unaware of how dangerous the guy was. Jamie looked at Ashton, and did not know if he could fight off this guy by himself. Jamie yelled out to Ashton, Ashton! He has got a knife of him! Jamie could see the knife in the back pocket. Jamie had an idea. She ran over to the man, and grabbed the knife. She had the knife in her hands, as she backed up out of the man's reach. The man was still trying to fight off Ashton, when he felt Jamie grab the knife out of his back pocket. He whorled around, and tried to smack Jamie, but she had already got out of his reach. He did not have time to try and mess around with her. He had to take care of Ashton. The man stood tall, and he tried to grab Ashton. As he did, Jamie ran up behind him, and stood there, with the knife out of the safety holder and in the air. You had better not touch him, or I will stab you, here and now! Jamie was furious. On top of the fear and shock, Jamie stood her ground, with the knife pointed to wards the man. I have excellent aim, and don't you even dare try to do anything. Watched the guy very closely, and took little steps closer to him. Ashton, watch your back. She said in a low but extremely firm tone. What neither of the guys knew is that she would practie throwing knifes for hours at a time, everyday with her father. She was very, very accurate was not afraid to do it. Her feet were planted on the ground, and she was not about to move.

Ashton had only been given a small grip on the mans hair and the foul creature was about to twist around and try to knock Ashton over with his arm. He braced himself for impact, knowing it was unnavoidable. He wasn't expecting the force behind the blow. He was knocked sideways as the hit collided with his neck, though he did not lose his balance and fall. He noticed Jamie's escape and focused all of his power on the man in front of him, aiming a punch at te guy's stomach with all of the force that he could muster after what the hit on his neck had taken out of him. Then Jamie called out to him, Ashton! He has got a knife of him! "Crap," he muttered under his breath. "Just what I need." But the man never had a chance to use the knife. Jamie got it first. Ashton stood, watching as the man went after her before he managed to try and grab part of the man's clothing. "Jamie, get out of here!" he yelled the command in a deep voice. "Take the knife with you and go home! Don't throw it at him! You could hit me if he moved!" He was thinking of himself now that Jamie was safely away from the man and, even if she was the best shot in the world, the man could move and she would hit him. He wasn't quite ready to be killed by a knife. His attention was away from the man now as he watched Jamie, hoping she would take his advice.

Jamie Jamie watched Ashton, and the man. She was not going to leave Ashton alone. I'm not leaving you alone with this guy. Jamie still had the knife in a firm grip. All of the sudden, she heard sirens, and police. Jamie did not turn her head, for the man could go running. The blade of the knife was still pointing at the guy as the policemen rounded the corner. There was at least six police officers. They all started telling the man to put his hands up, and to lay on his belly. The man followed their orders after staring at Jamie. Jamie slowly lowered the knife, and stepped back. She went and sat against on of the buildings. Her guard was still up, but she put the knife down on the ground next to her. Jamie slid down, and laid her head against the building wall. Jamie sighed with relief, and as she did, a female officer walked over to her, and bent down. "Are you the one who called us?" Yes. Jamie nodded her yes, and opened her eyes. She looked at the female officer and waited for the next question. "Are you the one who was attacked by that man?" Jamie nodded again and said Yeah. The female nodded and stood up. She put her hand out to help Jamie up. "Did he hurt you anywhere?" Her voice was sweet. He threw me on the ground over there, Jamie pointed over to where the police officers had the man on his belly, cuffing his hands. They were reading him his rights, and attempting to get him to his feet. And he tried to take my shirt off, but he did not get that far. I clawed at him, and my friend over there helped me out. Jamie looked over to Ashton. The female officer nodded, and said "Thank you. He will be going to jail for Attempted kidnap and Attempted Rape." Jamie nodded, not liking to word "rape." She did not want to face the reality, that if Ashton was not there, he would have raped her. Jamie sighed and laid her head back on the wall. She did not want to move, and since the man did not get any of her clothes off, and she said she was fine, Jamie was not looked over by a EMT.

The sirens caused Ashton to back away from the man, a lopsided grin on his face. "You're done for," he said quietly in a victorious voice. He placed his hand against his neck to find blood. The impact of the blow had cut his tight skin slightly and there was a little blood. But that didn't bother him. It was the bruise that he knew would be there tomorrow and the fact that he could not move his neck in any direction that bothered him more than anything else. He slumped to the ground where he stood, suddenly feeling the real pain from the blow that the man had managed to land. The police had already taken him away, not bothering to talk to Ashton, thank goodness. He leaned against a tree and stared at the place where the man and Jamie had been only minutes before. In his mind he could see the picture all over again, the man hovering over Jamie where she had been thrown onto the ground. He tried to shake his head, but winced in pain. He did not want to think about what might have happened if he had not been there in time, though why he cared still bothered him a little. She was nothing to him, right?
